Frequently Asked Questions Retort Stand

These retort stands offer superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional metal stands. While metal stands can rust and corrode when exposed to moisture and chemicals, these stands feature a polypropylene-covered rod and a moulded plastic base that will never corrode. This makes them ideal for use in wet labs, with corrosive chemicals, and in environments where metal stands would quickly deteriorate.

Three base configurations are available: Code 54101: 225x150mm base with side hole (smaller size, ideal for compact benchtops), Code 54102: 300x200mm base with centre hole (larger size, rod mounts in center), and Code 54103: 300x200mm base with side hole (larger size, rod mounts at side). The center hole configuration provides balanced support, while side hole offers more working space on one side of the stand.

The rod measures 12.5 mm in diameter and 750 mm in length. This is a standard size compatible with most laboratory clamps, holders, and accessories. The rod has a polypropylene covering that provides corrosion protection while maintaining the strength needed for stable support.

Assembly is simple: screw the threaded end of the rod into the threaded hole in the base. Turn clockwise until the rod is firmly seated and stands perpendicular to the base. Do not overtighten. The stand is now ready for use with your choice of clamps and holders. To disassemble, simply unscrew the rod from the base.

The polystyrene/polypropylene base may not be suitable for autoclaving due to the different temperature tolerances of these materials. The polypropylene-covered rod may also be affected by autoclave temperatures. For routine decontamination, cleaning with appropriate laboratory disinfectants is recommended. If sterilization is required, consult with Polylab customer service for specific guidance.

These stands are designed to be perfectly stable when properly assembled. The heavy base provides a low center of gravity, and the rod screws securely into the base, eliminating wobble. For most laboratory applications, they provide stability comparable to or better than traditional metal stands of similar size.

The weight capacity depends on the configuration and how the weight is distributed. Generally, these stands can support typical laboratory apparatus including burettes, condensers, and funnels. For heavy setups, the larger base configurations (300x200mm) provide greater stability. Always ensure clamps are properly tightened and weight is balanced to prevent tipping.

Yes, standard laboratory clamps and holders designed for 12.5mm rods are fully compatible with these stands. The polypropylene-covered rod has the same diameter as standard metal rods, so all your existing clamps will work perfectly.

These retort stands are supplied individually, with one piece per pack for all three codes (54101, 54102, and 54103). This allows you to order exactly the quantity and configuration needed for your laboratory.
